Katharina is a new PhD student in the Bioinformatics group at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She studied biotechnology in Germany and bioinformatics in Sweden before moving to the Netherlands. Her project focuses on machine learning to improve the development of immunoassays for different dementia biomarkers. The main task will be to develop an algorithm that can predict how well an antibody will bind its protein target in an assay. Right now she is learning about the challenges of the biomarker development pipeline to understand about all the different factors that are essential. The eventual goal is to develop computational methods that can support the identification of biomarker candidates in the lab.
